WHERE: The Glass House, 11-12 Lettice St, Fulham, SW6 4EH, London.
TUBE: Parson’s Green.
THE DEAL: A dedicated Power Yoga studio off a quiet residential street in Parson’s Green. Here the team leads London’s most powerful classes, as well as teacher trainings, and special workshops.
THE WORK-OUT: Power Yoga is the most active, dynamic form of yoga you can do, and there is nowhere better than here to do it. Every class is fun and varied to keep you on your toes. Each series of postures is designed to improve strength, balance, and flexibility and provide an all-over work-out. Be prepared to sweat and lose sight of your breath in the flows as the sequences can get fast and challenging. For those wanting a technique refresh or complete introduction to power yoga then the ‘Power Yoga 1” class covers all the basics and allows you to refine technique at a slower pace. The Saturday morning ninety minute Power Yoga class with Aram is hard and also pretty incredible. Aram’s classes are dynamic, challenging and inclusive. His monotone meditative voice guides the room hypnotically through his sequences. Focus is always placed on maintaining the breath and the flow together, but its also not too serious with some jokes and playfulness thrown in too. After this you might need extra time-out in Savasana. And also a big brunch. Alternatively there is also a “Flow & Restore”to offer balance to the more dynamic classes. These classes focus on inner healing and slowing down to harmonize the nervous system (our foundation for a healthy life). This could be one of the most valuable classes you do in terms of reconnecting to the body and building self-regulation techniques to release tension and achieve blissful relaxation. Likewise the “Yin”class caters to longer holds which works deep into the connective tissue. Props are also often used to help the body into poses to allow them to comfortably open out and promote renewal and energy flow. If you’ve never done Yin before, focusing your energy instead on the typical sweat-inducing “Power Yoga” style, then it might really be worth doing. Its a chance to give back to yourself in a different way. Aside from these, regular classes for pregnancy, post-natal and even teen yoga classes (which btw we love) feature on the timetable.
THE PRICE: Newcomers can pay £15 for three classes. After that a single sixty minutes class is £16. An unlimited monthly pass to all classes is £155.
