KOBOX - Chelsea

MOTIVATIONAL? CHECK. SWEAT-DRIPPING? CHECK. HEART-PUMPING? CHECK. UNLEASH YOUR INNER FIGHTER AT THIS FIGHTCLUB MEETS NIGHTCLUB…

WHERE: 122 Kings Road, London, SW3 4TR.

TUBE: Sloane Square.

THE DEAL: Bringing boxing to boutique fitness. Spinning and treadmill HIIT classes have been done to death, but KOBOX is making it its mission to close the gap in the market for a boxing experience.

FYI: KOBOX have two other locations; in the City and Baker Street.

THE WORK-OUT: Screw the stigma of boxing - the classes here are for everyone.Whether you know what you’re doing or if its your first time, boxing training is way more than just punching things. You’ll need to bring wraps and gloves, or you can rent them there. Once the class has started you’ll spend half the time on the wall and the other half on the bag. In fifty minutes you’ll cover rounds of boxing combinations on the big shiny black bag as well as rounds of strength training using free weights, resistance bands, slam balls, landmines, gymnastic rings and a host of other equipment. Don’t think your time off the bag will be restful - this class delivers one hell of a workout right until the end. The boxing is fairly straight-forward to master as KOBOX have designed a ‘Punch By Numbers’ method. For instance a jab-cross might be number one and an left upper cut might be a three. Then the instructors call out the numbers you need to hit and away you go. If that sounds complicated, don’t worry. There’s also a big screen at the front of class that reminds you what number is what and how to do the move! During the class the lights go low, music pumps from the hi-tech sound system and you can escape the everyday as you punch it out on the bag - if you don’t get too distracted by your instructor that is. Did we mention they all look like Greek Gods? Classes are divided up and themed to target a particular area of your body with Full Body, Upper, Lower and Core, so no work-out is the same. At the Chelsea branch they’ve even got a full-on boxing ring for some more personalised one-to-one training to sharpen-up technique or for beginners who want to take it slow. It’s also a pretty popular background to take a cheeky selfie :) Hang around after class for people watching and a post work-out smoothie at the KOBOX cafe bar.

THE PRICE: Newcomers pay £25 for two classes and a set of KOBOX branded wraps. After that its £20 per class and five for £95.
