Running in TEMPELHOFER FELD
THE ABANDONED AIRPORT MAKES THE IDEAL RUNNING AND BIKING TRACK FOR A WEEKEND RUN - OR MID-WEEK RACE TRACK. ITS ALSO A HIT FOR FLYING KITES, HAVING A PICNIC, LAZING AROUND AND SEEING A GREAT SUNSET.

THE DEAL: Temperlhofer field is the so-called ‘shame’ of Berlin. It was meant to be a grand airport for the city, but unfortunately it was never finished. So the project was abandoned and the space converted into a public park for the people. Its now the largest inner city open space in the world, and Berlin's largest city park (its almost like taking a trip to the countryside without ever having to leave the city). An empty expanse of space that shows off the flatness of the city, with epic skies when the sun goes down. Just make sure you’ve got your camera ready to Instagram that sh**.
THE WORKOUT: In our case it was running. But you’ll also meet cyclists, rollerbladers, skateboarders, kite flyers, wind skateboarders and even a football team or two on the track - there’s plenty of space for everyone. It can get pretty windy which makes running against it more of a challenge. One lap around the track is 5K, so depending on how you feel, stick with a short and fast 5 or go for a second and third lap to train up your endurance fitness. If longer runs aren’t your thing then try Fartlek training. Bringing a friend along to race with in shorter time bursts (sprint 100m then jog for active recovery and repeat X 6) is another motivating and fun way to train up your cardio fitness. Remember to bring some beers with you to re-hydrate in style after.
