IF YOU LIKE SYRIAN FOOD THEN YOU'LL LOVE YAROK. YOU'RE ALSO LIKELY TO EAT FAR TOO MUCH, WHICH WE APOLOGISE FOR THIS BUT BELIEVE US ITS WORTH IT......
WHERE: You'll see the crowds before you see the restaurant but you can find Yarok at Torstraße, 195.
THE DEAL: Massive plates of middle-eastern fair.
THE FOOD: Where do we start?! First of all can we mention the falafel? IT'S AMAZING. Packed with spices, crunchy yet smooth, the perfect companion to the creamy Syrian Huomus and flat-breads. If you want a bit of everything then opt for the house special“Mix Platte”; essentially a feast of all the best bits. Expect more creamy Syrian Huomus, crispy Tabula, cous-cous salad and minced beef kabab. Home-made sauces add some dippage to the plate; tangy lemon and a spicier hot sauce make the ideal complementary flavour combination. Our companion tried the "Chicken Special Schwarma" (with backed vegetables?!) which he reported as one of the best he'd had in the city; juicy, high-quality meat. The menu presents a lot of vegan and vegetarian friendly options too and we ordered the Makali (fried vegetables) and the deep-fried zucchini, which came more like a patty. Forget any ideas you had about vegetables being dull - this was fresh, herby, spicy and everything a vegan / veggie hopes for.
THE DRINKS: We didn't pay much attention to the drinks. The food is really that great. We've been told there is pretty decent tea - we'll try the Chai next time.
THE PRICE: Pretty f***ing good value if you ask us! Our top pick is the falafel at €6.00, the "Mix Platte" for two is €15.00, "Chicken Special Schwarma" is €8.00 and the Zucchini €6.00. Plates are very generous and come with huomus, salad and bread.
PAY BY: €ash only.
BEST FOR: Greedy f**ckers and if you're after some of the best, most authentic taste of the middle-east we've found in the city.
