WHERE:  Kopenhagener Str. 17, 10437 Berlin.

THE DEAL: Melt in your mouth Arabic Israeli fusion food. You can also pick up fresh bread and other bits at their in-store bakery / take-away and learn their secret recipes of Chef Jalil at special cooking workshops. Trust us, the hummus and pita is so good here yo'u’ll want to learn how to make it yourself.

THE FOOD: Their brunch buffets is one of the best Middle-eastern veggie vegan spreads we’ve seen for miles. Come hungry because you’ll want to try everything; Hummus Masabacha, salads and traditional Palestinian dips alongside the mains like Shakshuka, Hummus Pancakes, vegan French Toast and freshly homemade puff pastries. If you prefer to sleep-in then you can also go for the a la carte lunch menu; think Falafel plate, Hummus burger, Hummshuka and Mallawach of the day (a traditional puff pastry served with toppings and dips from Yemen). The Kanaan fries; potato and sweet potato fries, served with red-pepper tahini and za'atar are comforting, crunchy and tangy. Beetroot salad with creamy goat cheese and pomegranate sauce is fresh and cuts through the richness of all the hummus (hey we aren’t complaining) well. Save room for dessert - Chocolate Tahini mousse is as bomb as it sounds. A variety of Arabic pastries and cheesecake (with a German twist of course) also feature on the menu. Match the tasty food with a fragrant light tea (orange blossom, fennel seeds and fresh mint) or something stronger; the house cocktails on the menu use the special premium anis liquor blended with Kanaan spices and fruits molasses.

THE PRICE: Decent! The generous brunch spread comes in at €12.50 per person. It’s also kid friendly and there’s a 50% discount for ages 5-10. The lunchtime Mallawach of the day is €8. Fries are € 3.5. Salads are all €7.5 for a large and €4 for a small. Desserts are €4. Drinks range from water (€2.5) to Arabic coffee (€3), a selection of teas (€3). A glass of wine or house cocktail €6.5.

Bonus! Kanaan are also huge supporters of the community and believe in giving back. That’s why they regularly host workshops, talks and social events to get the city together to learn, socialise and grow.
