DALUMA

HANG-OUT WITH THE COOL CROWD. THEY DON'T EVEN NEED PROPER TABLES TO EAT AT - ITS THAT COOL. ALL JOKING ASIDE, THIS PLACE IS GREAT - HEALTHY, FRESH FOOD, JUICE OPTIONS FOR DAYS AND A SKANDI-STYLE INTERIOR THAT WE WISH WE HAD AT HOME....

WHERE: This healthy hipster joint is located in the heart of Mitte - Weinbergsweg 3.

THE DEAL: A health cafe serving up plant-based breakfast, lunch and treats in a chilled-out setting, popular with locals and tourists alike. The minimal, Skandi-style design adds extra cool-factor.

THE FOOD: For breakfast, although the menu is predictable we won't hold that against Daluma. The avocado bread, pro-biotic muesli and buckwheat porridge were all good and nicely presented. The acai bowl with avocado and cacao also sounded intriguing. Despite small portions, all the food d.s tried for lunch was tasty. 'New coal and the greens' comes as a bowl of greens ( d.s. would like to emphasis there was a lot of raw kale), courgette, peas and quinoa with activated charcoal hummus. The hummus was a bit of a shock (dark grey spread across the plate) but tastes good. The quinoa was sadly non-existent. The 'Pasta bowl' is simple and tasty - basil pesto, spinach, pine-nuts, pasta - you can't really go wrong.  A couple of raw desserts and balls are also available to grab in an open fridge if you want an extra sugar fix.

THE DRINKS: Grab yourself a cold-pressed juice from the open fridge when you arrive or order yourself a smoothie from the bar. Firm favourites include the playfully named 'Run Forest' juice packed with greens, fruit, lemon and mint. 'Golden Hard-core puritans should go for the 'Green Giant' smoothie or 'Metabolism' blend (the potent combo of only greens and lime is a health-kick in the face). Likewise the 'Burning Man' shot with ginger, lemon, cayenne and oregano oil does what it says on the tin; an immune booster that shocks the system. Of course coffee and teas, with a good range of regular, soy and nut mylks, are also available. As coffee snobs we were left slightly flat (note the pun), but if you're here for the coffee you're missing the point anyway.

THE PRICE: If you're ordering a coffee and a juice, the bill can start to rack up quite high. Juices and smoothies come in at € 5.70 a pop for 400ml. A flat white is a reasonable €3.20 without an extra charge for soy or nut mylk (hallef***ckinglujah!).  Salads and mains start from €7.90 and breakfast pots start at €5.30.

PAY BY: €ash or card.

BEST FOR: Meeting up with friends for a healthy, relaxed brunch date. Even better if you're hungover - the prices won't matter at that point.
