Union Station Yoga + Minnow
get strong, bendy and grounded in the brain and the body at this class just off the common.
START: Union Station Yoga, 18 Lavender Hill, Battersea, SW11 5RW, London.
FINISH: Minnow, 21 The Pavement, SW4 0HY, London.
TUBE: Clapham Common.
THE WORKOUT: Flow 1-2 on Sunday at 10am with Daniela is a gentle way to shrug off last night’s hangover. This seventy five minute class offers that rare breed of yoga classes; a dynamic vinyasa sequence which will make you sweat but interspersed with some more mindful and slower moves that synchronizes to the breath. In the light and airy studio it’s easy to relax into the flow and get caught up into a tranquil trance-like state. You’ll build strength and balance but headspace away from your monkey mind chatter. As the pace of the class starts to wind down for close, some restorative and grounding poses are woven in to calm the body and mind before Savasana.
THE FOOD: A destination for brunch, complete with a cute little terrace out the back to soak up that evasive summer sun. The space itself gives off those modern, natural vibes; full of greenery and a long marble bar, a beautiful hand tiled mosaic floor and a quiet walled garden outside. Food-wise, this brunch will not disappoint you. In fact we bet it’ll give you the biggest smile on your face. Smashed avocado and poached eggs makes the menu (obviously) with a decent serving of avocado. If you’ve built up a big appetite (or still need something to take the edge of last night’s dancing) then the Veg Minnow has got all the works; poached eggs, portobello mushroom, avocado, spinach, house baked beans and toast. Eggs Royale with smoked salmon is also a tasty, but filling dish. The best sweet options are the indulgent french toast with berries (melt in the mouth) or the lighter bircher muesli (decidedly moreish). Feel free to just stick with a coffee, but brunch without cocktails is just a sad late breakfast. The mimosa here is on the money. However, if you feel like switching it up the breakfast marmalade Margarita makes a nice little twist on this Mexican favourite.
FYI: If you want to come back when the sun goes down these guys have also got a great dinner menu, plus aperitivo hour from 3-7pm with original cocktails, and local craft beers at savvy prices. Pretty much the dream then.
