TRIPLE SHOT - Another Space + Mildreds + The Box
WORK-OUT HARD THEN PLAY HARDER - this is healthy hedonism personified. MAKE YOUR THURSDAY NIGHT THE NEW FRIDAY NIGHT WITH A HIgh intensity TRAINING class, A HEALTHY VEGGIE DINNER and A DECADENT party at the most INFAMOUS CLUB IN TOWN…
START: Another Space, 4-10 Tower St, Covent Garden, WC2H 9NP, London.
STOP-OFF: Mildreds, 45 Lexington St, Soho, W1F 9AN, London.
FINISH: The Box Soho, 11-12 Walker's Ct, Soho, W1F 0SD, London.
TUBE: Leicester Square / Piccadilly Circus.
THE WORKOUT: Thursday 19:45pm HIIT 45 with Vitor. Another Space is another sexy boutique studio in Soho (and a second branch in Bank) filled with stylish beautiful people. The class is fast and furious, alternating between strength exercises on the floor with high-energy punchbag work on the boxing bags. Vitor makes the most of the forty-five minutes you’ve got - you’re here to work and its bloody effective. Divided into three sections you’ll work on speed, power and explosive movements, each featuring different exercises performed for time. On the floor a mix of weights, sandbags, medicine balls and your own body weight are used to increase the challenge of standard HIT exercises like burpees, push-ups, frog jumps and lunges. The focus is on making movements as powerful and explosive as possible to maximise the after-burn effect of the class. Don’t worry about anyone else there - with the lights down and the music turned up its really you, the bag and the floor. Just keep moving, keep fighting for breath and burning out your muscles. Make the most of the slick facilities afterwards to get dolled up for the night ahead.
THE FOOD: The original Soho outpost for the London veggie massive, and a place where sweet potato fries dreams are made. Off-set the partying later with this virtuous menu (if post-HIIT you’re ready to go full hedonist then Bob Bob Ricard round the corner and their ‘press here for champagne’ buttons should fit the bill). Start with cocktails while you wait for a table (the place gets packed and they don’t take bookings) or eat up at the bar for a speedy queue jump. Once seated, order starters to share. “Grilled aubergine and saffron tahini”, “Gyoza dumplings'“ and the “Smash avocado” with corn chips make a nice warm-up for the main course. Then think about getting the Mexican black bean burger (its got a properly meaty texture), or Halloumi burger - and always with a side of Sweet potato fries (the chipotle ketchup and tomatillo coriander mayo are game-changers). If you want to stay on the straight then the “Soul bowl” is packed full of the healthy stuff; carrot, beetroot, quinoa, tomato, dates, mint, kale, shiitake mushroom with avocado, cashew cheese and sesame dressing. If you want to spice up your life then get the “Sri Lankan curry” - a sweet and creamy affair with sweet potato, green bean, lime cashews, peas and rice. Desserts are worth saving room for if you want a treat. These desserts aren’t messing around - they are the kind of sticky, dense, sweet desserts of childhood fantasies. The infamous “Peanut butter, caramel, dark chocolate swirl brownie” should give you a fair example of what to expect. Otherwise skip dessert and get a drink. Coffee and tea are all organic but since you’ve got a wild night ahead, the Hazelnut espresso martini might be a good idea.
THE PARTY: Right in the heart of the red-light district in Soho lies your party place. The point of The Box is to be shocked and entertained. No phones or cameras are allowed. If you’re visiting from Berlin, you’ll feel right at home (bu you’ll need to dress-up) Make sure you’re on the list or have some friends who can get you in. Once you’ve been accepted past the threshold you move through a dark passage, up a winding staircase, through some Narnia-like double doors (its called building anticipation people) and then you’re in. Inside evokes decadence and debauchery with dark candle-lit corners, mirrors and plenty of red velvet. Get there before the show starts around 1:00am. Performances are random; fire-stunts, burlesque dancing, twin girl contortionists, strip shows, kinky Alice in Wonderland performances and transsexual exhibitionism could all play out on the open stage. If you make it to the VIP Green room upstairs there’s another stage, four poster bed, strippers pole and potentially a few famous guests you’ll recognise. Be prepared for anything to happen here - its just that kind of place.
THE PRICE: A single HIIT class is £20. We love the first-timers offer where you pay £30 and get two classes and a credit to bring a friend. If you want to buy more a five class pack is £95 and nine class pack is £135. Mildreds prices are friendly for London: “grilled aubergine and saffron tahini” £4, “Gyoza dumplings” £6 and “Smashed avocado with corn chips” £5. “Mexican black bean burger” and “Halloumi burger” both £8. Add cheese for £1, avocado slices £2 and sweet potato fries £4. “Soul bowl” £12 and “Sri Lankan curry” £13. “Peanut butter brownie” £6.5, Hazelnut espresso martini £7.5 and tea £2.
