U / S - BAHN: Gleisdreieck (Berlin).

THE WORKOUT: Friday 18:00-19:00pm (Women’s only training) Krav Maga at Walk in Peace. If you’re a lady we recommend this class because Krav Maga gets pretty damn physical. For gents and anyone not feeling like they fit the “women’s” label are more than welcome to join the regular class at 19:15-20:30pm). Whatever your ability, age, race, gender etc. Krav Maga is for everyone! If you don’t know what Krav Maga is then allow us to introduce it to you now. It’s the reality-based form of combat used by the Israeli special forces (and also favoured by the likes of Matt Damon, Jennifer Lopez and Hilary Swank) that teaches you how to defend yourself, kick some ass and makes for an intense workout too! Work on your defence moves (think handling punches, kicks and ground combat and challenging core work like planks and press-ups) with the expert instructors at Walk in Peace. As you practise you’ll find you build up the fluidity and speed of your reactions, so much so that they start to feel instinctive. And that’s the beauty of Krav Maga. Unlike other martial arts, you don’t need years of basic training. Plus we bet you’ll start to feel more confident and self-aware. There is a lot of partner work so the class also an awesome opportunity to meet some other like-minded social-fitness double-shotters. Walk in Peace is part of the International Krav Maga Federation so the level and quality of training is excellent. This also means that they take your training seriously. In addition to regular training, the Women’s only training also helps prepare women against sexual and violent assaults; physically, mentally and emotionally to provide a complete 360 training. You’ll leave feeling fit, fierce and ready to take on Friday night :)

FYI: There’s changing rooms and showers available on site to use after class.

THE DRINKS (AND DINNER): BRLO BRWHOUSE has got everything you might want on a Friday night; a brewery, restaurant, bar and beer garden. Effectively you are spending the night in Berlin’s Craft beer playground. Rehydrate from one of their twenty craft beers on tap, or discover something new and try one of their Pale Ale’s, wines or a cocktail. For those curious about craft beer these guys also offer a BRLO Tasting Board where you can try five different BRLO varieties in smaller glasses to get a feel for what you like. Anyone prone to hanger post work-out - don’t fear. The BRWHOUSE kitchen celebrates food as well as beer. Surprisingly the menu treats vegetables as the stars of the show, proving that veggies need not be an addition or afterthought to a meal, and are more than capable of holding their own. For instance the cauliflower with smoky spice rub, BRLO pale ale glaze, red cabbage, apple and nut butter crumble is beautifully autumnal. Cheese lovers will appreciate the baked, smoked celery, taleggio cheese, peanut crumble, grapes and a fermented leek mayonnaise. Sautéed Jerusalem artichoke slices, puree and chips, with a lavender milk and beurre blanc is melt in your mouth. The menu also offers side and “on tops”. For instance match a side of baked pumpkin, egg and spinach, or malted parsnip and goat cheese risotto, with roasted parsnip and Saint Maure goat cheese with “tops” like baked leek with chili mayo or German kimchi. Meat lovers are still catered for with various cuts of beef, pork and duck, cooked to perfection in the smoker. Choose a sauce to accompany your meat like honey whiskey BBQ, Apple Ketchup or Chilli Mayo. A couple of sandwiches from burnt ends on the smoker or a lighter cream cheese option are more budget friendly options. If you just want something to nibble on there is also a great bar snack menu; think chips and croquettes.
