MONDAY - THE DAY WHEN WE NEED THE MOST MOTIVATION - BUT NOT ANYMORE. GET A WORK-OUT IN BEFORE WINTER HITS US PROPER AND THEN BOOST YOUR IMMUNITY WITH A BIG BOWL OF VEGGIE GOODNESS AT MANNA.

THE WORKOUT: Enter the park via Grunewald Str. and you'll see a small alley into the park. Once inside, pass a children's playground on your left and find Gritspot’s cargo bike and workout station on a grassy area to your right. Welcome, your HIT work-out with Chris starts at 18:30. Warm-up, work hard and then cool down. This is the basic premise of most work-outs. But Gritspot’s’ approach is a little different; whatever your fitness level and whatever your training goals, this is all about community and making friends while you sweat. Turn up to a session and its clear that most people are regulars, but first-timers are also warmly welcomed. For the actual class whack on your heart-rate monitor and move through a series of high intensity circuits to get your heart-rate into whatever zone your trainer sets for you (to give you the optimal work-out burn so we’re told). Each circuit has a variety of ‘stations’ where you need to perform certain exercises accordingly. Props include kettle bells, resistance bands and skipping ropes so you build up fitness and strength over the whole body in just a few sessions. Its strangely satisfying to complete a station and move on to the next. Forty-five minutes flies by. For anyone vaguely competitive it might interest you to know that your heart-rate data gets saved so you can try and beat it next time. Pretty motivating stuff.
***FYI*** this is a great work-out but no frills so don’t expect to be able to shower after.
THE FOOD: You can thank us later. If eating healthily means eating MANA for the rest of your life then we can all die happy. The food is wholesome, filling, jam-packed with nutrients, tasty as f*** and just so happens to be Vegan. Oh and totally Instagrammable. Their big fat main course veggie bowls are the thing to order here. The ‘Inca’ bowl won’t disappoint with quinoa, paprika creme, tempeh, mango chutney and babyleaf spinach. The ‘Goldie’ bowl is also a customer favourite; a #health combo of carrot, roast beet, avocado, hummus, spinach and rice. ‘Green Spirit’ is a lovely warming mung bean dhal with edamame dip, avocado and courgette (zuchinni) cream. For dessert choose between ‘Chocolate orange mousse’ or ‘Magic poppy mousse’. We’re still dreaming about the chocolate orange (oh Terry we miss you). Advisable to book a table so you don’t have to wait.
