LOVE CYCLE + GREEN & BERRY
YOU MAY NEVER HAVE EXPERIENCE SMILING WHIST SPINNING (gritted teeth doesn’t count) BUT AT LOVE CYCLE YOU WILL, PROVING YOU CAN WORK-OUT HARD AND NOT TAKE YOURSELF TOO SERIOUSLY. AVOID THE HANGRY FEELS WITH BRUNCH POST CLASS…
START: Love Cycle, Via Augusta, 10, 08006 Barcelona.
FINISH: Green & Berry, Carrer d'Enric Granados, 153, 08008 Barcelona.
THE WORKOUT: Spinning to some chart classics with a seriously cheesy vibe. Grab your choice of hand weights, hop on your bike and feel immediately pumped as some of your old school favourites blast out through the speakers. The class mixes up faster sprinting tracks with challenging hill climbs. There’s also a big focus on incorporating the upper body so you’re not just working out legs. Be prepared for variations of push-ups and crunches to work the core and arms. A welcome relief to very tired legs is the pure upper body track that you have to get through before the cool-down. This is where those sly hand weights come in. Shoulder presses to bicep curls to tricep extensions to front raises, all of these and many more are called out by the peppy instructor. We loved the switch-up from legs to arms; it broke up the class a bit and meant that we got a well-rounded full body work-out. Thanks love cycle :)
FOOD: A healthy, vegan-friendly, organic menu - come here for the wellness classics. The Rio Acai bowl was calling our name and it satisfied our cravings well (although the portion was pretty small). Avo toast and the Sweet toast with nut butter, cacao nibs and strawberry are tasty (nothing WOW but there are exactly what you would expect). The burgers are the thing to order if you’re hungry. the beetroot and brown rice burger was en pointe, and came with really fresh basil guacamole. Otherwise for smaller appetites the poke bowl, where you can choose your own protein source (go vegan with tofu or pick salmon or tuna) and other ingredients might be the way to go. The Hummus salad and raw Zucchini bowl also come in take-away packs so would make a great working lunch. Coffee comes quick and hot and as you would expect they have all the milks (almond, oat, coconut, soya, dairy). We tried the “Hulk” smoothie - a combination of banana, nuts, dates, coconut water, spirulina and kale which was tasty but given the price would be happy to give it a miss next time.
THE PRICE: Love Cycle ain’t cheap in Barcelona terms. But its in line to its spin counter-parts oversees. €19 for a single drop-in and first timers keen to commit can take up the €38 for three classes deal. Ten sessions is €140 and you can also opt for the monthly unlimited pack for €149.
